Manni Mézes

gingerbread baker

My story:

We are Manni Kádár and Ferkó Kádár gingerbread bakers. We learnt this craft from Juli Lázár, Young Master of Folk Art. We have been making our gingerbread figurines in our family workshop for 19 years. Our aim is to delight and put a smile on people’s faces with our products.

What will you find here?

We make our gingerbread dough by using our own flour, honey and eggs. The motives of our gingerbread made with the traditional wax writing technique come from the treasures of Hungarian folk art. At our stand we offer classical gingerbread men and figurines such as hearts and hussars, but animal figurines, musical instruments, Christmas and winter forms (stars, bells, pine trees, Santas, boots, gloves), as well as hearts with personalised inscriptions are also available. In addition, you can also find 3D gingerbread shapes (pine trees, Christmas trees, huts, churches and nativity scenes) and ice-coated modern gingerbread shaped into winter and Christmas figurines.
Fair visitors can choose from ethnography-related products as well. Photos collected from the whole of Hungary and never before published serve as the basis of our ethnography publications. Nearly 200 folk post cards are exhibited at our stand, which can be purchased, of course. Each year we also produce our folk calendar. This way, 13 great pictures depicting old-style peasant life make it to the homes of our patrons. Visitors are also welcome to buy notebooks in three sizes.
